March Sweet Candy Lacquer & Moustaches: Born Pretty Store

Moustaches in February? Yes! That's what today's post is featuring! Little moustaches are so cute and have been so fashionable for the last few months that we've see them printed everywhere and made into jewellery.

Here is a little moustache ring from the Born Pretty Store. The polish I'm wearing is also from Born Pretty and is part of their newest range of polishes, March. The collection consists of 12 "sweet candy" colours and this rose blush with hints of pastel coral is #9. I drew the moustache on my middle finger with some black acrylic paint. As I'm not very good at freehand, acrylic paint gave me better control compared to black polish.

The bottle is really dainty and the little bow makes it even more cute. These polishes cost $7.29 each but the formula was good and applied smoothly in three coats. You can use my 10% discount code VA7J61 for any Born Pretty Store purchases and they also offer free shipping worldwide.

The ladies at Born Pretty also sent me a new clean up brush as my current one is quite old and tattered. However, as soon as I saw it, I knew it wouldn't work for clean up as it's way too bushy and uneven. I may be able to use it as a lip brush or an angled eyeshadow brush after a little trim.

My Guest Post Over A: Clothes, Cosmetics and Chat

Hi all. Check out my guest post over at Clothes, Cosmetics and Chat. Laura is currently really busy studying for her exams and asked it I would like to guest post for her :)

I decided to go for something soft and with a "shabby chic" feel. Essie Navigate Her reminds me of just that!

Papa-paparazzi

A while ago I was looking at "Lady Gaga nails" on You Tube and came across some really cool designs! There were quite a few clips on how to do nails like her Paparazzi outfit which I found really cute so I thought I'd give them a go!

I used Beauty UK Yellow Peril as a base colour and a dotting tool to draw the Mickey Mouse heads. The very thin gold french tips are made of striping tape.

Sweet Cherries of Mine

Time for a little bit of nail art! I've got so much stuff to post for you guys and I wish I could post everyday but I'm so busy at the moment :( Good thing I have quite a few swatches and manis which I did over a weekend a couple of weeks ago, so I'll keep posting some of these until I run out!

I had been wanting to do a cherry manicure for ages as they are incredibly cute. However, my first attempt was so disastrous and disappointing that I had to remove it straight away! I drew cherries on all the nails and I just didn't like the look! It was a bit of an overload especially as I am really into more toned down and discreet (not too discreet) looks now!

That's when I came across a picture on Tumblr by a girl called Victoria. She did a cherry mani but only on her accent finger! I can work with that! I spent about an hour looking at all her designs! She is so talented and her stuff is seriously amazing, check out her page!

So, this is the second attempt. I like it much more! I'm even impressed that those cherries came out quite "cherry looking"! I'm so bad at freehand that I was half expecting them to come out looking like plums!

The red is Boots 17 Knockout Red and the white is OPI Alpine Snow!

Playing with Nail Art pens

Today I have an abstract mani to show you. Remember the Rio Beauty Nail Art pens I used for my Bad Little Kitty mani? Well, I was going through the booklet and leaflet included in the package and found an abstract design which I liked and seemed easy enough for me to attempt since my freehand skills are almost non existent!

I used the blue and green pens to draw the swerving lines and for the thin french tips! I then used a thin brush to fill in between the lines with silver glitter.

And here is the leaflet I used for inspiration:

From the Vault: Sheer Pink & Black Fishnet Nails

I like to share my successes as well as my disappointments with you - enter the Fishnet mani!
When I saw this on a YouTube tutorial by Glamerous Gabby I thought it was such a good mani (and still do despite the outcome). I loved the whole idea and look.
I did this mani over a month ago and realised the mistakes I made but I didn't discard the pictures because there was something about it that I still really liked. My Fishnet is a little messy but I still love how it looks on the nail:

NOTD: Tribal, Avatar Inspired & New York Summer - Hot Baby Blue

I was watching some you tube videos by Meliney yesterday and came across these tribal nails which are inspired by Avatar. If you haven't checked out her youtube channel, please do. She has some amazingly cute designs. I'm so busy at the moment and to add to top it off, have also hit some sort of mental block...I can't come up with anything creative!!! Arrgghhh!!!

I used New York Summer Hot Baby Blue for the base colour. This was the first time I tried a New York polish and although I loved the colour, I wasn’t impressed with the consistency. This particular blue is so sheer that when I first started applying it, I thought I would need at lest 6 coats...no joke! I ended up painting a white base colour and laying the Hot Baby Blue over it. Much better!! This meant that I only had to end up applying 2 coats and the blue really popped to what it looks like in the bottle:

Vintage Floral Nails

Hi everyone,

Hope you are all having a wonderful Saturday.

Quite a few friends complimented me on my Chinese Cherry Blossoms nails that I decided to do something similar - summery and flowery. Cutepolish has just recently posted a video on YouTube for this design and I thought I'd give it a go.

I have to admit that I do prefer the look when the red and pink of the roses are blended together as opposed to this one where the red is outlining the pink. I'll try that next time :-)

What do you think of this look? For some reason I like the way it looks on other people's nails but not a massive fan when its on my nails. My mum said these look like a dress my grandmother had when she was younger...lol... that's the point mumsie !!

Here are the products I used:
* CND - Stickey base coat
* Essie - Mint Candy Apple
* Jessica - Samba Parade
* Sally Hansen - Racey Rouge
* MUA - shade 13 (sorry, no colour name)
* Konad - Top Coat

Chinese Cherry Blossom Nails

Hi all

The sun is a bit shy today. In fact, we haven't had much of it lately. I just want the summer to get here...quickly !!!
I was browsing the net for "summery" type inspiration and came across a few Chinese cherry blossom nails on YouTube.
I used a minty pastel colour as a base as I'm currently obsessed with this colour, although in my opinion any pastel colour would go well with these:

Essie - Mint Candy Apple
Barry M - Black
Jessica - Samba Parade
OPI - Alpine Snow

Pink Leopard Sparklers

Hi all

I'm feeling a bit under the weather today, couldn't get out of bed for most of the morning, boooo !!!

I wanted to do leopard pattern (again) as you all know how much I love it. There are so many variations of leopard and zebra that I want to try out. Here is the latest one:

I started off with a pink base colour topped with some glitter:
Then drew a leopard print stripe in the middle of the nail and some silver dots around the stripe. Voila!!

I'm also going to try this leopard print variation again but without all the sparkle and glitter.

Products used:
Creative Nail Design - Raspberry Parfait
Saffron London - Glitter No44
Nail Star Nail Art Brush - Black

I can have my cake and eat it too...

Hi all,

Double post today to make up for the couple of days of non-posting !!!

Nail Stories is now on Facebook, yaaaayyyy !!!

Since I'm still officially on holidays, I've had a little more time at home which means I've also got more time to experiment with my nails. This morning my husband brought home some cupcakes and they were so colourful and pretty that I had to do some sort of design based on them. I suppose I could have elaborated more but here is how they turned out:

Products used:
Barry M - Blueberry Ice Cream
Barry M - Lemon Ice Cream
Jessica - Samba Parade
Essie - Mint Candy Apple
OPI - Lucky Lucky Lavender

Minnie Mouse Inspired Nails

This morning I wanted to show you my Minnie Mouse nails. This was inspired by Cutepolish. Have a look at her amazing creations here: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/cutepolish

Minnie's face on the ring finger didn't quite turn out how I wanted it to. Maybe next time I can draw her in much better... My bows need a bit of tweaking as well...some of them look crooked !!! Practice, practice, practice...
You'll notice, on some of these Minnie has beady eyes drawn in and on others she doesn't. Lol !!! Wasn't sure which one looked better ?!?!
Products Used:
Sally Hansen Insta-Dri - Racey Rouge
Rimmel London French Manicure - French Ivory
17 Lasting Fix - Mini Skirt (for dotting)
